Air Conditioning Not Cold, Malfunction Indicator Lamp On, DTC P0116 Set

Condition:
Some customers may comment that the Air Conditioning (A/C) does not get cold enough. Others may comment that the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) is on. Technicians may find that Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0116 (Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Performance) has been set in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
Possible Cause:
This condition may be caused by the software in the PCM that allows the P0116 to set. While the P0116 is active, the PCM will not allow the A/C compressor to engage.
Correction:
Service Procedure
Technicians are to reprogram the PCM in vehicles built prior to the following VIN breakpoint:
The updated PCM calibration is available on TIS Version 29.0. The new calibration is entitled “New software with diagnostic enhancements for DTC P0483”. As always, make sure your Tech 2 is updated with the latest software version. Refer to the Engine and Powertrain Control Module Programming and Setup procedures in the Service Manual for further information.

Motors America, Inc. recommends only using validated interface devices. Additionally, always check with the J2534 device manufacturer for the most current firmware versions before attempting any reprogramming. The following are needed to perform SAE J2534 compliant programming:
- SAE J2534 compliant reprogramming software available on CD from IsuzuSource.com
- Note: Reprogramming should only be performed according to Isuzu
Service Bulletin specifications.
- A PC operating within the minimal specifications set forth below:
- Windows 2000 or Windows XP operating system
- One free COM Port
- One free USB Port
- Intel 2.4 GHz or greater
- 256 MB RAM
- 2 GB of hard drive space
- 16X DVD ROM
NOTE: Failure to use a PC with the above mentioned hardware or software (or better) may cause a failure when installing or operating the J2534 Reprogramming software.
- SAE J2534 compliant pass-thru device.
Compatible J2534 Devices
- A third-party Pass-thru device capable of supporting J2534 API 4.04. This device and the necessary cabling must be purchased separately.

Data needed is available to subscribers at www.IsuzuSource.com. From the menu, select Service Information / Isuzu ESI. Enter the model and model year to review Service Bulletins, Campaign Bulletins, and Calibrations.
